LIBRARY RULES & REGULATIONS
- OPENING HOURS
- Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- The library is closed on Sundays and all public holidays
- KEMRI LIBRARY USERS
The following people are allowed to use KEMRI library:- KEMRI students,
- Faculty and staff
- KEMRI Alumni
- Registered external users and visitors
- CONDUCT OF LIBRARY USERS
- Silence should be observed while in the library
- All library patrons should keep the library clean
- Cell phones should remain in vibration or silent mode while in the library
- No food and drinks are allowed in the library
- Leave library books on the reading tables, do not return them to the shelve
- Take proper care of the library collections, any loss or damage shall attract a penalty
- All bags, hats, heavy jackets or luggage of any kind should be left on the reception desk
- Return borrowed library materials on or before their due dates. Failure to do so, a penalty will be charged.
- BORROWING PROCEDURE
- The borrower must present an ID card, valid for the current semester, to borrow library materials.
- Only the owner of a library-registered ID is authorized to borrow materials on his or her card.
- Visitors who wish to use the library must clear with the staff in charge before any transaction takes place in the library.
- LOAN PERIODS
- Circulation collections Books shall be loaned for a period of 10 and 15 days to students and staff respectively
- Short loan books shall be borrowed for 24 hours ·
- Materials on loan may be renewed twice provided no one has requested them.
- The library can recall any material that is on loan depending on its demand
- FINES
- The following fines shall apply for returning library materials late Circulation collection: Kshs 5 per day Short loan collection: Kshs 2 per hour

- DAMAGE/ LOSS OF LIBRARY MATERIALS
- All users will be held responsible for any damage or loss of library materials in their possession and will be required to meet the cost of replacement and processing
- Lost library books that are recovered, must be handed to the librarian as they remain the property of the Institute Library
- It is the responsibility of the borrower to see to it that a book is in good order when borrowed and if a book is returned in a damaged condition it will be assumed it has been damaged while in the possession of the last borrower
- Any user who causes damage to or loss of any library materials or other library property will be charged for replacement costs.
- The marking of books and other library materials will be regarded as damage.
- PRINTING AND PHOTOCOPYING
These services will be available to all users at a cost.
Users are advised to strictly observe the copyright law while photocopying and printing.
